Well, there are a number of reasons:
First, it gives you another cause for celebration because about every 2.7 years you can celebrate another 1000 days since something happened, be it your birth, your graduation, your marriage, your divorce etc. To try it, just check out the "Check Your Dates" link.
It also gives you an original angle to celebrate a friend's date. For example, you can give your supprised friend a greeting card congratulating them on being exactly 10,000 days old today (which is sure to win you some points, since you'll probably be the only one to remember !). If you register you'll be able to be notified in advance whenever such a reason to celebrate approaches for a friend, or a family member or yourself.
It is also an interesting way to learn new things, for example, did you know that today - November 21th, 2024, happens to be exactly 90000 days since Pieter Burmann the Younger, Dutch philologist died ? Tomorrow's event will be different of course, so if you want to find out what happened thousands of days ago tomorrow, just come back and visit this site again. If you want to see additional trivia for today, check out "Today, Days Ago..."
Last, but definitely not least, counting in days is a refreshing and effective way to look at life. Dale Carnegie wisely suggested living in "Day Tight" compartments. Yesterday doesn't exist, neither does tomorrow - Today is all you have. Make the most of it.
“So let's be content to live the only time we can possibly live: from now until bedtime. "Anyone can carry his burden, however hard, from now until nightfall," wrote Robert Louis Stevenson. "Anyone can do his work, however hard, for one day. Anyone can live sweetly, patiently, lovingly, purely, till the sun goes down. And this is all that life really means."”- Dale Carnegie, “ How to Stop Worrying and Start Living”
So start counting in days and don't let them go by. Happy counting !
